A sculpture inspired by the Machine Gun Corps which was based in Grantham during the First World War has been unveiled in Wyndham Park.
The sculpture was unveiled this morning by the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire Tony Worth near the park’s memorial archway in front of a large crowd of onlookers including many local dignitaries.
The sculpture was designed by air cadet and Grantham College student Daniel Fay for a competition and it was sculpted by David Sharpe.
The unveiling took place exactly 100 years to the day after the death of Captain The Hon William Reginald Wyndham who was killed in action during the first battle of Ypres.
Before the unveiling Father Stuart Cradduck, of St Wulfram’s Church, led a service and wreaths were laid. A pupil from King’s School played the Last Post.
