A woman who celebrated her 90th birthday this week has vowed to carry on playing the organ at her church where she began more than 50 years ago.
Sheila Brownlow plays the organ at All Saints Church in Barrowby where her father also used to play. She began playing the instrument in her teens, although had started the piano aged 7.
Sheila comes from a musical family and her husband Don was also organist at the church until he died in 1999. Sheila then took over full time.
Sheila, who has three daughters, said: “I love playing the organ. I will keep playing as long as I can.”
Verger Phil Waghorn said: “We offer both modern and traditional music in our services and we are delighted that Sheila has been able to play our beatiful organ - installed in the 1870s - for many years for us, and hope that she will continue for many years to come.”
Mr Waghorn added: “She is a much loved and valued part of our church family and we offer our heartfelt congratulations on the celebration of her 90th birthday.”
