Pauline Engelbrecht (late Thorpe), daughter of the late John Girdlestone, chief projectionist of the State/Granada Cinema, and Philip Meredith, son of the late George and Edna Meredith, of Knipton, were married at All Saints Church, Knipton.

The service was conducted by Canon Alan Haydock.

Given away by her grandson, Donovan Thorpe, the bride wore an ivory, calf-length lace dress and carried carnations and scented stock.

Bridesmaid was Tristen Thorpe, bride’s granddaughter, wearing a blue calf-length dress and carrying flowers similar to the bride’s.

Best man was Neil Meredith, bridegroom’s son.

A reception was held at the Manners Arms, Knipton.

Pauline and Philip will take their honeymoon in the New Year, when they will visit family in South Africa, who were unable to attend the wedding.

The couple will live in Branston.

Pauline is a housewife and she enjoys crossword puzzles and cooking. Philip is retired and his interests include crossword puzzles, oil painting and writing biographies.
