DAVE Banks, SKDC’s head of environmental services, states (Journal, March 16) that local residents are “satisfied with the current alternate weekly service waste bin collections, rather than weekly.
I find it hard to believe that I am the only local taxpayer not to have been consulted, so perhaps he can let us know via the Journal precisely how many SKDC residents he asked before he made that statement.
I know of no one who was pleased when the weekly service was withdrawn; indeed a government survey found that the majority of people want weekly collections and many local authority environmental health officers, nationwide, expressed concern at the increased risks of pest infestation when fortnightly collections were imposed.
The short answer to Dave Banks’ claim that we are “satisfied” at losing our weekly waste collections is probably the same as Eric Morecambe’s classic response to the question: “What do you think of it so far ...?” “Rubbish!”
