I WAS privileged to be in the audience on Saturday evening at the Star Academy senior students’ performance of The Sound of Music.
The choral work done by the nuns was superb. The audience knew immediately after the first number that this would be an evening to remember as these wonderful voices filled the auditorium. This was followed by solo performances of the Mother Abbess and the Sisters whose powerful and stunning voices were incredible.
Harriet Green didn’t play the part of Maria, she was Maria. Her acting skills, her singing and clever use of the stage entranced us all. Luke Musson as Von Trappe surpassed all expectations. The seven Von Trappe children were excellent. Rolf and Leisl sang an enchanting duet.
We were treated to a very sincere performance by the beautiful Elsa and a truly comedic performance by Max. The housekeeper, butler, footman and all the characters who visited the Von Trappes were excellent, as were all the performers at the festival.
The escape of the family was very moving. Then came the reprise, what a knockout, we were all clapping to the singing and cheering and at the final curtain there was a standing ovation.
Well done Star Academy you were brilliant. The stars certainly shone brightly for us on Saturday.
