GRANTHAM-based Australian biker Brendan Roberts closed the gap at the top of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup championship with a fourth place at Misano, San Marino, on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Ducati Xerox Junior Team rider lies second, just eight points behind leader Xavier Simeon at the half-way stage of the 10-round competition.

Brendan set the fastest lap in opening qualifying on Friday, despite crashing in the morning and sustaining a groin injury that required five stitches.

He slipped to fourth on the grid after Saturday qualifying and fell back to seventh following a poor start in Sunday's race.

Brendan worked his way back up to fifth and David Giugliano's crash moved him up to a fourth place finish, one place ahead of main rival Simeon who raced with a broken collar-bone.

The next round of the championship is at Brno, in the Czech Republic, on July 20.
