ATHLETICS: Christmas run unites Grantham runners

Thirty road runners from Grantham clubs came together to take part in the annual Christmas Eve run.

This year’s event started in Barrowby and followed a 12-mile cross country route to the Manners Arms public house at Knipton.

l Christmas and the New Year’s Day are the only times where additional Parkruns are allowed to take place.

Among the 331 who tackled the Peterborough Parkrun at 9am on Christmas Day morning were Grantham Athletic Club’s Paul Davidson who finished 28th in 20min 10sec and Janice Anderson (25:07) who was 119th. Dean Houlton opted for the Mansfield Parkrun in which he finished fourth in 18:33.

l Seven Grantham AC athletes made the journey to Peterborough to take advantage of the extra New Year’s Day Parkrun event.

Paul Davidson was rewarded with a new personal best and was first in his age category.

l The regular local Saturday events between the bank holidays were cancelled due to the snow and icy conditions. However, things were back to normal on the first Saturday of the new year.

Naomi Collier got her 2015 racing off to a good start, winning the ladies’ event at the Newark Parkrun. Adam Madge continued his good form to finish second and upgrade his Newark PB.

Meanwhile, John Bainbridge set himself a new PB at the Peterborough event.
