Grantham Athletic Club junior Helen Braybrook already as a season to remember, having recorded some excellent results.

Twelve-year-old Helen has set new club records at 800m, 1000, 1200m and 1500m, establishing new Lincolnshire and Leicestershire County Championship and School records along the way.

Just last week, she triumphed in the national final of the Independent Schools’ 1500m in a winning time of 4min 59.58sec.

Helen qualified for the national final in Birmingham having won the regional final in Bedford the previous week, when she faced opposition from 50 schools.

Her club coach Geoff Collier said: “Helen is only the under-13 female in recent club history to break the five minute barrier, and has done so at a very young age. She has set a fine example of winter cross country training with the club and regular track training sessions, all of which are now paying off.”

Helen goes to school in Oakham and competes for Grantham AC in the Lincs League and the Youth Development League and trains with the club at their Monday and Wednesday evening sessions at The Meres stadium.
