Grantham Athletic Club youngsters competed in the second under-17/20 Youth Development League meeting of the season at Derby on Saturday.

Following a league restructure, Grantham saw themselves pitched against five other teams including two cities (Derby and Stoke), two combined teams (Amber Valley and Erewash) and East Notts (made up of five teams) and Burton.

But the 13 athletes from Grantham AC did themselves and their club proud, achieving a fantastic fourth place on the day, beating Burton and East Notts.

Three GAC under-17 athletes were competing at this age group for the first time, and some contested under-20 events too.

Overall, eight first places were achieved, with nine seconds and 11 thirds, with at least every Grantham athlete obtaining either a first, second or third place.

Special mention went to Ryan Carley for achieving first place in the 110m hurdles and four runners-up placings in high hump, triple jump, long jump and javelin. Also, the three under-17s who were competing at this age group for the first time: Izaac Brown (2nd triple jump, 3rd high jump), Kate Davis-Bavin (1st 100m, 3rd javelin, 4th long jump), and Saskia Hunt who won the 1500m steeplechase.

The next YDL match is at Derby again on June 28.
