A mixed group of 14 Grantham Running Club members took part in a cross country event at Riseholme in Lincoln on Sunday.
The club was well represented at what was the third race of this season’s Lincolnshire Cross Country League.
The men’s team, consisting of Mark Wilson, Marc Tremain, Dean Riggall, Christopher Armstrong, Paul Durham and Gordon Geach, put in a fine performance with Dean Riggall the first member home.
The ladies comprised Anna O’Hare, Catherine Payne, Sarah High, Nikki Carr, Lucy Roberts, Ruth Dunstan, Penny Hodges and Gwenda Williams, and placed from fourth to 45th with top spot being taken by Anna.
The tough off road course was muddy and wet and was testing for both teams.
l Grantham RC’s Abi Scofield finished at the sharp end of the ladies’ race in the Kings Forest 50km Ultra-Marathon event.
Abi was the second lady to finish, covering the scenic Thetford Forest course in a time of 4hr 52min 0sec.
l Grantham RC fielded two runners in Newark Park-run in Newark last weekend.
Gordon Geach ran a solid 23:51 in the event attended by 126 runners. He finished 21st
overall and was the 19th man to cross the finish line.
Nick Payne finished in 24th place overall with a great time of 24:06.
l Mark Hillson competed in the Bingley Harriers Man v Bike six-mile race. The event is a cross country in which cyclists and runners compete to see who can master the difficult terrain the fastest.
Mark completed the course in 57:22 after a tough hill climb in what was a testing first two miles.
This year, first and second place were taken by mountain bikers.
