Five members of Grantham Running Club tackled the Manchester Marathon on Sunday.

Three personal bests were recorded with first home, Andrew Pask, actually overtaking the 3hr 15min pace runner in the final mile.

GRC now have two ladies in the top 100 marathon runners in the UK rankings, with Catherine Payne also inside the top 10 for her age group.

Results: Andrew Pask 3.14.26 pb, Ben Mason 3.21.55 pb, Catherine Payne 3.22.46, Holly Durham 3.23.26 pb, Robert McArdle 3.36.12.

l Another quintet of GRC runners took part in the 32nd Belvoir Half-marathon last Sunday.

Runners’ efforts were rewarded with perfect conditions with three personal bests and two season’s bests recorded in the light winds round the fast course near Hose.

First home was Tom Fowler with his second fastest half-marathon, going sub-88 minutes, with his wife Rachel setting a great time to beat the two hour mark.

Another husband and wife team, Nick and Louise Payne, both set PBs by minutes.

Results: 38 Tom Fowler 1hr 27min 23sec sb, 65 Iain Brown 1.31.02 sb, 162 Nick Payne 1.41.00 pb, 237 Louise Payne 1.50.04 pb, 276 Rachel Fowler 1.55.54.

l Four GRC athletes ran the City of Lincoln 10km on Sunday.

Gerry Hyde produced a quality run to finish second in his veteran category. He is set to represent Team GB at the European Duathlon Championships in Horst this weekend.

Despite a strong headwind in the final 2km, both Paul Durham and Gwenda Williams set personal bests on the streets of Lincoln.

Results: Gerry Hyde 39.25, Paul Durham 52.18 pb, Gwenda Williams 57.01 pb, Yvonne Taylor 1.05.04.

l GRC member Ruth Dunston took part in the hilly Taunton Half-marathon where she lowered her personal best to 2.02.33. Her next target is to go below two hours.

l Matthew Kingston-Lee finalised his preparations for the Rotterdam Marathon when he finished second at Newark Parkrun #45 on Saturday. He clocked a new course PB by 24 seconds in 17.52 and in doing so registered the fastest 5km of the year so far by a GRC member.

He was followed home by Robert Howbrook who was 11th and took 42 seconds of his previous course best. Lucy Roberts was seventh lady and 39th overall in 27.05.

l All three Grantham AC athletes that tackled Parkruns over the weekend lowered their PBs.

Aaron Hunt took 8sec off his at Lincoln, finishing seventh in 19.41. His sister Saskia knocked a huge 22sec off at the same race to finish 41st in 23.42. Keith Measures chipped a further 2sec off his PB to finish 27th in 23.30 at Lincoln.

There is a big step-up in race distance from 5km to 26.2 miles for four club athletes – Sophie Stanley, Julie Stewart, Trudy Hanson and Phil Hall – who all entered for the London Marathon this Sunday.
