A duo from Grantham Running Club picked up a pair of second places at this year’s Friskney Half-marathon on Sunday.
It was Paul Rushworth and Catherine Payne’s final race before the London Marathon, and both posted times that indicated their training might lead to best-ever performances in the capital later this month. Paul recorded 1hr 27min 8sec and Catherine a personal best 1.34.48.
Fastest Grantham runner was Arthur Short in 1.21.49. Also running were Robert McArdle (1.38.20) and Philip Hall (2.05.54).
l Grantham AC’s Joe Madge (39.50) was fastest of a town quintet entered in the Lincoln 10km race on Sunday.
Also running were Grantham RC’s Iain Brown 40.28, Vicky Clarke 48.34, Kathryn Larkin 57.53 and Yvonne Taylor 64.59.
l Paul Davidson was Grantham AC’s sole representative at Sunday’s Sandy 10-mile road race.
Despite the hilly course, Paul posted a time some two minutes inside his 2012 best, crossing the finish line in 1.07.42.
l Grantham RC’s Dave Kay collected third place in the Bourne Run in the Woods event on Sunday, recording 39.34 for the 10km distance.
l Lucy Roberts and Keith Measures took part in the Belvoir Half-marathon on Sunday.
Keith knocked five minutes off his season’s best to finish in 1.47.25, with Lucy not far behind in 1.50.21.
l Grantham RC’s Gordon Geach was gutted to miss beating his personal best by just 10 seconds in the Paris Marathon on Sunday. He recorded 3.21.03.
