ATHLETICS: Grantham RC soak up the sun at Spa 10

This year’s 10k season kicked off with a bumper Grantham Running Club turnout at the Woodhall Spa event.

Bright sunshine and near perfect conditions welcomed the team of GRC runners for this ever popular road race.

Ben Hodgkin, in only his second ever race was the first GRC runner home in an incredible personal best time of time of 37min 32sec, finishing in 40th position out of more than 1,000 runners. Following Ben in 82nd position came Scott Jones with a PB time of 40:08 who struggled late on witjh the heat which ended his dream of a sub-40 minute race on this occasion.

Debutant 10k road runner Nick Rossington followed, clocking 41:23 to set a great benchmark for future races. Holly Durham then put recent injury troubles behind her to finish 11th female, with a time of 41:41, just 10 seconds outside her PB.

Andy Atter added to GRC’s personal best tally with a well-earned 41:44. Next home was regular marathon runner Gavin Meadows in 43:18, then Neil Emerson 48:18. Tom Durham rounded off an excellent day of PBs with a speedy 52:04.

Next up for the GRC team is the Summer Solstice 10k at Long Bennington.
