Grantham Athletic Club’s Newton’s Fraction Half Marathon drew another sell out entry for the third year running with more than 400 runners battling the elements to complete the testing course.

Despite the conditions, Adam Holland of Notfast RC claimed first place to be a double consecutive winner, for 2016 and now 2017 in a time of 1hr 12min 27sec. Second was Iain Bailey of Sleaford Striders AC in 1:15:49 and Dave Greenwood of Holme Pierrepont RC was third in 1:17:22.

The women’s first prize was awarded to Natalie Teece of Stilton Striders in a time of 1:29:27. Paula Downing of Mablethorpe Running Club was second and Nicola Birch of Scunthorpe and District AC third in 1:32:48 and 1:33:18 respectively.

Holly Durham, Penny Hodges and SJ Willis of Grantham Running Club took the ladies’ team award.

Fastest in the Vet 60 category was Grantham AC’s Tony Madge in 1:30:48.

Club chairman Bill Lord acknowledged the support of marshals and volunteers who helped out on the day, with special thanks to the young ambassadors from Inspire+ and local sponsors Lincolnshire Runner and Brewster’s Brewery.

The Little Apple Fun Run was an outstanding success this year with double the amount of runners in 2016. There were 132 taking part, from young to old, many doing their first organised fun run.

Grantham Athletic Club were delighted to sign up several of the runners to join the club for summer training and competition.

The proceeds of the Little Apple Fun Run and sports massages fees from David McKee and Sophie Hunt will be donated to Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance charity and Inspire+.

If you have a child who is eight years or older, indoor training is still taking place at The Meres leisure centre from 6pm to 7pm on Monday nights. From the start of April, training will be at the athletics stadium on Wednesday nights at the same time.

GAC results: Adam Madge 1:24:58, Stephen Hobday 1:30:34, Tony Madge 1:30:48, Arthur Short 1:33:25, Catherine Muir 1:52:01, Paul Davidson (guide runner) 2:04:13.
