GRANTHAM Athletic Club held its annual Newton’s Fraction Half-marathon on Sunday.
The 13.1-mile race took the hundreds of runners from South Kesteven Sports Stadium out along Grantham Canal to Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, and then back to Grantham via Denton and Casthorpe Hill.
First home for GAC was veteran Arthur Short in 1hr 24min 48sec, followed by Ben Hatherley in a personal best 1.29.22. GRC’s Scott Jones lowered his PB by almost nine minutes to 1.38.46 and team-mate Yvonne Taylor completed her first half-marathon in 2.34.50.
Ropsley Road Runners duo Tony Johnson and Nigel McDermott completed the distance in 1hr 26min 40sec and 1.51.24 respectively.

l Grantham Running Club member Gerry Hyde was in action last weekend in the Kinetica Spring Ballbuster Duathlon at Box Hill in Surrey.
The gruelling five lap race comprised an eight-mile run, 24-mile cycle followed by another eight-mile run, with the course taking in a total of 3,000ft of climbing.
Also a member of Witham Wheelers, Gerry was pleased to run the second eight miles quicker than the first and finished 18th in his age group and 124th overall in 3hr 35min 6sec, despite a lingering calf injury.
l Grantham AC’s Paul Rushworth continued his preparation for the London Marathon by setting a PB in the Stafford 20 at the weekend, recording 2.21.36 for the distance.
The previous Sunday, Paul achieved a season’s best 1.25.07 in the Milton Keynes Half-marathon.
