ATHLETICS: Time to enter Newton’s Fraction and Little Apple

GRANTHAM’S annual half-marathon and fun run are due to take place at South Kesteven Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 11, at 10.30am.

The popular Newton’s Fraction should see more than 400 athletes compete over the scenic 13.1-mile course. Starting and finishing at the stadium, the race heads out of Grantham along Grantham Canal to Woolsthorpe by Belvoir, and then returns via Denton, Casthorpe Hill and Barrowby for a grandstand finish. For the first year, there will be hi-tech chip timing for all athletes.

The Little Apple Fun Run is open to 200 runners and walkers. The 3km route runs around the large sports complex grounds in Trent Road. Last year the event raised more than £600 for two important local charities. This year’s charities will be Help for Heroes and St John’s Ambulance, the latter without whom many sporting events would not take place.

There will be prizes for the winners of the Newton’s Fraction and medals for all runners who complete the Fun Run. Stalls, refreshments and the sounds of Gravity FM should all add up to an enjoyable day.
