GRANTHAM biketrials expert Patrick Donovan has achieved a long-held ambition to become champion in the home of his sport.
GRANTHAM biketrials expert Patrick Donovan has achieved a long-held ambition to become champion in the home of his sport.Patrick went into the second round of the Spanish Championship in Igualada lying in second place, knowing that only a win would secure the title.
Despite very long and difficult sections to contend with, Patrick won the second round to take the Spanish crown.
He finished 10 points clear of Carlos Lopez.
Patrick said: "It is fantastic to realise a goal that I have had for a long time.
"The hard work for this championship started at the end of last season in October, training through the winter three times a day, through the snow and rain.
"This win makes all the hard work worthwhile."
Patrick remained in Spain until yesterday, training in Barcelona ahead of the second round of the Biketrials European Cup which takes place in Milan, Italy.
