Grantham CC’s first XI have won the South Lincs and Border League Premier League and secured promotion into the ECB Lincs Premier League.
Going into the last game of the season, the Grantham team knew that their fate was in their own hands, having worked hard all season to gain a five-point lead over second-placed Boston.
Due to play Skegness away, Grantham were ready for the challenge only for the coastal side having to concede the game due to being unable to field a side – and this meant Grantham were awarded the maximum 20 points and therefore unable to be caught.
Although, Grantham were disappointed not to play the final game of the season, the hard work had already been done earlier in the season.
Captain Gareth Bennett expressed his gratitude to all the players, supporters and members of the club who have helped to make the season such a successful one.
The club is now looking forward to the challenges ahead and, with Grantham’s second team also pushing hard for promotion and the third team competing well, the season has been an excellent one for the Gorse Lane outfit.
