Frieston’s international racing cyclist Katie Colclough reached the pinnacle of her career when she and her American-based Specialized-lululemon team triumphed in the World Time Trial Championships in Tuscany on Sunday.

The 23-year-old former Grantham College student and her team-mates averaged more than 50km per hour to win by 1min 11sec from the Rabo Women Cycling Team.

Speaking after the race, Katie said she was unbelievably happy: “It’s the best feeling. I’ve never won a world title before so I’m really, really pleased.”

Katie’s work at the Worlds is not yet done. She rides for Great Britain in the World Women’s Road Race Championship race on Saturday, supporting Lizzie Armitstead in her bid for the title. Katie said: “I’m hoping I can do a good job for her.”
