FRIESTON racing cyclist Katie Colclough enjoyed double medal success for Great Britain at the Under-23 European Track Championships in Portugal last week.

Twenty-one-year-old former Grantham College student Katie competed in the team pursuit with Laura Trott and Dani King. The GB trio qualified fastest by nine seconds to give them a place in the final where they caught and passed the Polish team and set a blistering time of 3min 22.22sec to take the gold medal.

The time Katie’s trio recorded was less than three seconds shy of the USA’s world record for the event and would also have been good enough to have won this year’s World Championships.

After a couple of days’ recovery, Katie rode in the points race. She won the final sprint to secure the silver medal behind overall points winner Valentina Scandolara of Italy.

Katie is now back to training and road racing with her HTC Highroad team and is focusing on earning herself a place on the GB team for the World Road Race Championships in Copenhagen next month.
