Despite the distance going up to just under 65 miles, there was still a good turnout for Witham Wheelers’ latest reliability ride on Sunday morning.

Forty-one riders tackled the rolling route that took in Castle Bytham and Witham on the Hill, before heading for Heckington and back to Grantham into the prevailing south-westerly wind.

The first group kept together throughout and averaged 15mph. The faster two groups both split on the run-in back to town, with riders averaging between 16.6mph and 20mph. A smaller group enjoyed a shorter 30-mile route at a comfortable 13.6mph.

The club’s eighth reliability ride of the winter is a challenging 60-miler that takes in Melton Mowbray, Tilton on the Hill and Oakham, returning via South Witham.

The first group will leave Grantham Cricket Club in Gorse Lane at 8.45am. A shorter route will also be available. All welcome.
