CYCLING: Trevor White-washes Witham Wheelers TT league with a week to spare

WITHAM Wheelers’ 10-mile time trial league has been won convincingly by Trevor White.

Trevor earned another five points on Tuesday night to bring his tally to an unassailable 63 with one round of the competition remaining.

Lying second is Louise George on 49, just one point ahead of Natalie Eastaugh who is turn three points clear of her son Patrick.

Fastest rider on the night was Jim Coleman in a rapid 20min 56sec.

Next week’s time trial is a two-up pairs competition, starting at 6.30pm on Gorse Lane.

l Winner Jim Coleman was the only rider to break the 20 minute barrier in North Notts Olympic’s 10 on the A1 at Long Bennington on Saturday, recording a nippy 19:48.

Other Wheelers competing were Chris Carter 22:16, John Farmer 23:24 and Tony Hardenberg 26.27. who all rode personal bests.

l Four members of Witham Wheelers took part in the latest LVRC road race at Flintham last Sunday.

Up against the likes of two-times Tour of Britain veteran Phil Thomas, Rob Johnson and Phil Atherton competed in the CD race.

Still recovering from a recent illness, Phil was forced to retire at the end of lap four. Rob Johnson did well to finish in the bunch, with former Wheeler Steve Bunn taking an excellent second place ahead of Thomas.

Riding in the EF race, Phil Etches managed fifth overall in the bunch sprint behind the three-man breakaway, and Tony Mendham was also well up the field.
