Witham Weelers’ first reliability ride of the year took place over a 32-mile route, starting from the cricket club on Gorse lane and heading out to Waltham on the Wolds via Saltby, before heading towards Harby and returning via Redmile and Belvoir Castle, ending with the last steep climb from Denton back on to Gorse Lane.

Forty-eight riders, including complete novices to experienced racers, with ages ranging from 14 to 70-plus took part, and it was also especially pleasing to see a growing number of ladie.

The riders set of in four ability groups with the aim to stay together and complete the ride in the target speed range, which by and large all managed to do (group 1 12.1mph, group 2 15.5mph, group 3 16.6mph and group 4 18.6mph).

This Sunday will be a slightly longer 40-mile route heading south to Whissendine before returning via Waltham on the Wolds. There will be also be a shorter route available for those less confident of the longer distances, with the first group leaving the cricket club on Gorse Lane at 9.30am. All welcome.
