Witham Wheelers cyclo-crossers took part in the RAF CC promoted round of the Lincs League at RAF Cranwell.
The event used tracks and woods around the sports grounds, with some of the cross country horse jumps thrown in for some added technical difficulty.
After a couple of recent wins in the under-16s, Robert McAndrew was only able to take third position, feeling the effects of some heavy training sessions on Derby track.
Jessica East rode consistemtly for 19th overall and sixth girl in the under-12s.
In the veterans’ race, Sean East took the club honours, coming from a long way back to just outsprint Dave Moulds on the line for 34th overall, with Dave 13th Vet 50 and Simon Cocker 51st overall (20th Vet 50).
The seniors’ race saw Reece Egner take the family honours in 25th overall, with younger brother Adam 36th overall (fourth Junior).
Overall after six counting rounds in the Lincolnshire Championships, club riders positions are: Senior – 15th Reece Egner; Veterans (40+) – 9th Neil Sentance, 11th Sean East, 38th John Farmer; Veterans (50+) – 13th Dave Moulds, 28th Simon Cocker; Veterans (60+) – 8th Dave Miller; Under-16: 7th Robert McAndrew; Junior – 4th Adam Egner; Ladies – 4th Heidi Moulds; Under-12 Girls – 5th Jessica East.
On an incredibly windswept course at Winterton Showground with the course conditions classed as heavy due to overnight rain leaving the surface muddy, Robert McAndrew powered away from his nearest rivals to win his third Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross under-16 race this season.
Robert used his strength gained from training at Derby Velodrome to attack on the headwind uphill section of the course, immediately gapping his rivals in the first lap. He had some concerns on the last lap that his gears were getting clogged from all the mud but did not want to lose any time changing bikes, and in the end his fears were unfounded and he powered away to win by more than a minute.
Others: Under-12 – Jessica East 14th overall (3rd girl); Veterans – Dave Moulds 43rd (11th Vet 50), Sean East 46th.
