CYCLING: Fifth place for Katie at national championships

FRIESTON'S Katie Colclough finished fifth in the National Women's Road Race Championships at Abergavenny on Sunday.

FRIESTON'S Katie Colclough finished fifth in the National Women's Road Race Championships at Abergavenny on Sunday.A four-rider group, including top British racers Emma Pooley and world champion and eventual winner Nicole Cooke went away from the peloton after 30 of the 80 race miles.

Katie, a member of the Great Britain Olympic Academy, rode for the 100% ME team and crossed the line ahead of fifth placed Julia Shaw.

The result earned 18-year-old Katie a silver medal in the under-23 category.

Also riding was Katie's sister Charlotte. Represent her Belgian team Wielerclub Hand, she finished 10th overall.

Katie will be representing Great Britain in the Under-23 Road and Time Trial Championships in Belgium this weekend.
