WAYNE Hallcro says that the Gingerbreads must be wary of becoming overconfident after they extended their unbeaten league run to nine games.
Joint boss Hallcro’s comments came after Grantham Town registered a seventh league victory out of the last nine games, beating Carlton Town 4-2 at The Meres on Saturday.
The Gingerbreads generally dominated throughout and definite elements of poise and strong belief were evident in a good all-round performance.
Hallcro said: “We have a lot of confidence in the squad at the moment, in what we are doing. At the moment we feel that if our opponents get one chance, we’ll get three. However, we can’t get over confident.
“Other results this week have gone our way again. It does give us a boost.”
Hallcro said that improvements could still be made in defence. He said that another defender was needed at the club but that he and co-manager Jimmy Albans had no intentions of rushing into signing anyone on a whim.
Hallcro said: “Last Saturday, we conceded one good goal, one bad one and gave away a poor penalty. We were a bit sloppy at the back and it is something we need to tighten up on.”
Turning his attention to tomorrow’s Northern Premier Division One South match at Kidsgrove Athletic, Hallcro said that he was expecting the Staffordshire side to be well and truly up for it after they suffered a humiliating defeat at Market Drayton during the week.
Hallcro said: “We have had good results and good battles at their place in the last couple of seasons. The result on Tuesday should lead to a backlash from their players, so we will have to be on top of our game to get the better of them.
“It will be a battle for 90 minutes and we need to do what we do well.”
