Grantham & District Sunday League
Grantham United TRE 8
Grantham United needed all three points to guarantee them the league title – and clinched it in style at home last Sunday.
After a nervy 10 minutes, United found the gear they had lost in recent weeks and started playing like champions.
An excellent opening goal by Tyler Haynes started the first-half goal flurry that saw TRE six up at half time with strikes from Conor McGregor, Mark Smith (2), and an own goal.
A final goal in the second half by Smith saw him claim a hat trick, and Tom Figura and another own goal wrapped up the scoring for United.
Aslockton battled till the end and scored three times to reduce the deficit.
Grantham United’s man of the match was Tyler Haynes.
United manager Ian Haynes said it had been a great campaign and thanked team sponsors Affordable Cars.
He said: “It’s been an excellent season by all involved, and United were pushed hard all season by runners-up Springfield.
“As manager, I’d like to congratulate both teams for making it enjoyable.”
