Grantham Town will commemorate the biggest day in the club’s history with a ‘legends’ event at The Meres tomorrow.

The Gingerbreads hosted Second Division Middlesbrough in the third round of the FA Cup at London Road forty years ago.

And many of the Grantham side that took on Jack Charlton’s league-winning side will be present at The Meres tomorrow.

The team were the talk of the town back in the day after they defeated Rochdale 5-3 away in a second round replay. The Middlesbrough game attracted a bumper gate of more than 6,500.

The squad of 1974 will be introduced to the crowd prior to Grantham’s game against Matlock Town. Supporters will have the chance to meet the Gingerbreads heroes in the MCS Centre after the match.

Expected to be in attendance will include Ernie Nixon, Ron Harrison, Brent Horobin, Andy Crawford, Colin Thompson, Jimmy Bloomer, Gerry Taylor, Bob Norris, Chris Gardiner, and Jimmy Jackson.

Commemorative replica Grantham shirts will also be available for sale.
