Forty years ago this season, the Gingerbreads had their best day in the FA Cup.
Manager Terry Bly’s team reached the third round of the competition in which they drew Jack Charlton’s Middlesbrough at London Road.
A packed house saw Grantham give everything before going down by two goals to the side that romped away with Football League Division Two that season.
The Gingerbreads are celebrating that day with a reunion of the squad next Saturday (January 11). Ernie Nixon, Ron Harrison, Brent Horobin, Andy Crawford, Colin Thompson, Jimmy Bloomer, Gerry Taylor, Jimmy Jackson, Bob Norris and Chris Gardiner will all be in attendance as Grantham play Matlock Town. They will be introduced to the crowd on the pitch before the game, with a question and answer session in the MCS bar afterwards. Replica red shirts will be available for sale on the day.
