The Gingerbreads’ new Academy Scheme welcomed their final batch of trialists to the football club last Thursday.

The Academy has attracted a lot of interest from players and academics in Grantham and the surrounding area, with around 100 applicants in the last two months.

First team and club representatives, Lincoln University volunteers, and scouts Gary Mumby and Karl Silverwood, were all present along with Matt Baker from SCL, Grantham Town FC’s education provider.

Speaking after the trial, Academy manager Alex Cross commented: “Again, it was a very impressive day, the numbers were high and the quality of the potential students certainly exceeded my personal expectations. We have had excellent feedback about the trial from the parents and the players who enjoyed their time at the football club.”

The successful students will move on to the interview stage involving a one-to-one interview with SCL, the education provider.

Alex said: “I would like to also take this opportunity to thank the scouts and the football club representatives for their hard work to get a very high calibre of applicants. I am looking forward to working with the successful candidates in September.”
