Grantham Town go into their last game of the pre-season campaign tomorrow (Saturday) with the visit of Carlton Town to The Meres.
The Gingerbreads dominated a young Mansfield Town side in last Saturday’s 4-0 win, and bounced back from a two-goal deficit to draw with Boston United on Tuesday as they tuned up for their first league game at Blyth Spartans next Saturday.
Joint manager Jimmy Albans said: “Boston got us in the right frame of mind for the league and we need to keep that momentum going. We showed some confident football against Mansfield and went toe to toe with Boston and came out of it well. It has set us up well.
“High tempo games like that against Boston are our style of game. We did what we are good at and were still very strong at the end of the game. We believe we have had a good mixture of games which have given us a blend of football and fitness throughout pre-season.
“We have got the rewards we deserved for the performances we have put in. We are building confidence in the playing style and what we want.”
Albans said that tomorrow’s match against lower-placed Carlton would still be a test and indicator of form, and good preparation for the trip to Blyth. He said: “They are doing in their league what we are hoping to do in ours.
“We have had to sit off a bit in some of the games against the likes of Gainsborough, Boston and Gateshead, but we expect to have to take the game to Carlton.”
Albans said Michael and Jack McGovern would be back in the mix tomorrow: “We will probably go with something close to what we want to see against Blyth, but with Towey and McGovern missing two weeks of training and matches, I expect them to be a bit off the pace.”
Kick-off is 3pm at The Meres.
