Northern Premier League
Doodson Sport Cup
Belper Town 3
Grantham Town 1
Grantham Town went out of the league cup at the first fence and went behind in the ninth minute when striker Bruno Holden put Belper ahead.
Phil Watt curled in a cross to the far post where Holden headed inside the near post.
Gingerbreads goalkeeper Dan Haystead made a great save to deny Holden on 23 minutes, blocking his close range effort.
Grantham scored a deserved equaliser two minutes later. Alex Simmons curled in a free kick to which Nailers keeper James Martin got a hand, but Danny Meadows connected with the loose ball and volleyed into the back of the net.
The Gingerbreads had a chance to go in front just before the break but Connor Johnson’s 25-yard half-volley struck the underside of the bar.
The game remained a stalemate until the 71st minute when the home side regained the lead. Glyn Cotton broke through the Grantham defence and slotted home with ease.
The visitors’ fate was sealed four minutes later when a former Gingerbread came back to haunt them. Rob Stevenson set up Ash Burbeary and the ex-Grantham striker made no mistake from close distance.
