The Gingerbreads returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over lowly Marine at The Meres on Saturday.

A goal up at half time, Grantham’s resilience and general superiority paid dividends with two more strikes in the second half to reward their domination.

But the start of the game was a different story as the Mariners had Town on the back foot in the opening exchanges, with Kisimba Kisimba’s nicely-struck volley just flying wide in the second minute.

A scrappy period of play followed and Grantham were still struggling to find their rhythm as the half approached the midway point.

Chances came and went for Harry Clifton, Lee Shaw and Felipe Barcelos, and the Gingerbreads started to show more going forward around the half hour mark.

Luke Shaw went close with an excellent cross-cum-shot, with three team-mates just unable to get a touch at the far post, whilst Michael Hollingsworth headed over from a corner kick in the 32nd minute.

The home side finally got their reward 10 minutes later, with Curtis Burrows side-footing in from a Lee Shaw cut-back on the edge of the box.

Town’s goalscoring opportunities increased exponentially after the break as their greater finesse became more and more apparent, with Rhys Lewis hitting the post three minutes in.

But Gingerbreads fans had to wait till the 81st minute to see another goal, when skipper Stefan Galinski knocked the ball in from a Burrows corner kick.

The icing on the cake came four minutes later when substitute Jeremiah Dasaolu poached a goal from a scramble on the line.
