Grantham Town’s unbeaten run remained at 17 games after they were defeated 2-1 at Mickleover Sports on Saturday.

The Gingerbreads went a goal down in the 29th minute when former Derby County player Pablo Mills’ cross-cum-shot beat Town keeper Kieran Preston.

Grantham had a few half-chances, including a couple of Harry Clifton long range attempts, whilst striker Felipe Barcelos had a penalty shout waved away.

The Gingerbreads’ deficit was doubled on the stroke of half time when Clifton Morrison slotted home.

Grantham came out for the second half looking to get back into the game, and had several early goal scoring opportunities through Lee Shaw, Luke Shaw and Harry Clifton.

Their persistence paid off 15 minutes into the second period when Lee Shaw stroked in from a Curtis Burrows cross.

Lee Shaw had the ball in the net a second time but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The home side were reduced to 10 players when their player-manager John McGrath received his second yellow card, but the Gingerbreads were unable to make the numerical advantage count, with Mickleover defending to the hilt.

Grantham captain Stefan Galinski had a shot pushed wide and Danny Meadows struck the cross bar, but the visitors were ultimately unable to level and extend their run.

The defeat dropped Town out of the play-offs on goal difference to sixth place.

The Gingerbreads will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Workington at The Meres. Kick-off is 3pm.
