Two goals from Paul Grimes in the opening nine minutes gave Grantham Town the upper hand and they dominated the first half. Frickley pulled a goal back after the break but the Gingerbreads held on a for a well-earned three points.

Grantham found themselves a goal up after just three minutes. Grimes was barged off the ball as he ran into the Frickley 18-yard box and referee Mr Bramall had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. The Town number nine got to his feet and promptly smashed the penalty kick into the back of the net.
Frickley keeper Tom Woodhead blocked a Grimes shot with his feet four minutes later but was unable to prevent him hitting home in the ninth minute. Martin Ball whipped a sublime ball up the field to Grimes on the left wing. He ran into the box and calmly slotted in for 2-0.
Frickley’s Luke Danville headed wide from a free kick two minutes later, but it was all pretty much Grantham in control.
Grimes somehow fired wide from close range in the 26th minute as Frickley continued to struggle to string a couple of passes together.
Free kick specialist Ball curled his effort over from the edge of the D after Grimes was brought down, once again closing in on goal. And Grimes had another chance to increase Town’s lead in the 36th minute. It was another easy chance squandered, when he fired wide from Sam Purcicoe’s squared ball into the box.
Grimes set up Ben Saunders in the 41st minute but the Grantham skipper placed his shot just wide of the far post.
Ben Saunders another effort blocked in the first minute of the second half, and Grimes fird the rebound over the bar.
Town caused consternation in the Frickley box on 48 minutes. Ball’s corner kick was met by Deon Meikle’s head but the ball was blocked. A goalmouth scramble ensued but the visitors managed to clear from a gaggle of legs.
Lee Potts went solo down the right on 50 minutes. He fired towards goal from distance but Woodhead was equal to his effort and gathered confidently.
Grantham conceded a goal eight minutes later after a lapse in defence allowed Chris Howarth to blast in with ease.
The Gingerbreads appeared to be at sixes and sevens for a little while after but regained their composure, with Potts going close again with a shot just wide of the near post in the 64th minute.
Grimes put in a good run with 20 minutes remaining, evading the Frickley defence but once again firing wide of the mark.
Ashley Robinson launched a big throw into the Frickly penalty area in the 73rd minute, but no team-mates were able to get the vital touch.
Frickley had the ball in the net on 85 minutes but the linesman’s flag had already been raised.
Town substitute Karl Demidh ran clear a minute later but sliced his left-footed shot wide of the near post.
The last attack of the game saw Grimes set up Robinson but he dragged his effort wide from 20 yards out.
