Harrowby United enjoyed a successful trip to Bedfordshire side Potton United, coming away with another three points to move them up to fourth place in the division.
The Arrows dominated the first half, creating numerous chances. The first came after only two minutes when a free kick into the penalty area resulted in a scramble that ended with Jack Whyley being denied by Royals keeper Aaron Loney.
On eight minutes, Martin Wormall’s curling shot from the left just went past the post. Three minutes later, Lee Shaw provided a shooting chance for Bobby Lee that also went just wide. After 20 minutes, a neat one-two between Shaw and Wormall opened up a shooting chance for Wormall, which again just evaded the target.
Harrowby finally got the goal their dominance deserved when a Potton throw-in put Potton’s right back Sam Bonham under pressure. Shaw dispossessed Bonham who then brought the lively forward down to concede a penalty. Wormall stepped up to smash the ball past Loney.
Potton responded well and were unlucky when a great cross across the Harrowby goal was inches away from being converted by Nathan Macrow. Harrowby continued to create chances with Arrows man-of-the-match Sam Kirton shooting just over, and Shaw denied by Loney’s legs after being put through one-on-one by Wormall. A minute before the break, Harrowby keeper Jack Drury saved well with his legs from Steve Muggridge.
The second half was evenly contested up until just after the hour mark when a corner from the right found its way to Shaw who hit the back of the net with a spectacular overhead effort to double Harrowby’s lead.
The points were secured on 70 minutes when a fine run from Lee into the Royals box saw him find substitute Luke Peberdy, who laid the ball back for the league’s top marksman Wormall to coolly shoot past Loney for his 22nd goal of the season.
Potton pulled a goal back three minutes later minutes when a Muggridge cross from the right was headed home by Steve Thomas, under a challenge from Drury.
Wormall narrowly missed out on another hat trick with a minute left when he shot just wide.
