Nobody Inn Athletic Reserves 0

Caythorpe Sports & Social 1

Caythorpe Sports and Social Football Club went into this game determined to reclaim top spot from Nobody Inn Reserves, a position they have held since week one of the season, Nobody Inn took advantage of Caythorpe not having a game last week to overtake them by a point.

Nobody Inn started the game well but were unable to make the most of their possession, their closest effort forcing Caythorpe keeper Michael Blackman into making a smart save, pushing the ball over the bar as it was heading towards the top corner.

Caythorpe grew into the game and regained the majority of the possession after 20 minutes, but dogged defending from Nobody Inn saw them limit Caythorpe’s chances, the best of these chances saw a James Potts volley rattle the woodwork from a corner, and Brandon Lee’s fierce free kick tipped around the post.

The second half saw a change in formation from Caythorpe and this seemed to work, pressing Nobody Inn back into their own half. The Caythorpe midfield of Luke Peberdy, Brandon Lee, Luke Ashworth and Ben Thorpe worked tirelessly, feeding the front two of Ashley McClean and Tom Figura, but they were still unable to break the deadlock.

Caythorpe’s determination and possession eventually paid off in the 85th minute. A flowing move through midfield saw Ashworth slide a precision through-ball to Figgy who muscled past his defender to find himself one-on-one with keeper Luke Harley.

Despite the pressure he coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

This goal deflated a resilient Nobody Inn side and Caythorpe saw out the remainder of the game, keeping possession of the ball and winding down the clock.

The victory was Caythorpe’s ninth in succession and saw them reclaim top spot, with a game in hand.

Caythorpe’s man of the match was Michael Blackman.
