FC Genes 6

It was the final day of the season and FC Genes needed to triumph at Helpringham and the Green Man not to win against Nobody Inn to retain the league title.

The ‘clippers’ were 3-0 up early doors, a brace from Donaghy and a superb lob over the keeper from Clarke keeping their hopes alive. Genes went in 4-0 at the break after a deflected strike from Vorley found the back of the Rovers net.

However, the Green Man were winning 3-1 at this point.

Genes kept plugging away, Watson and Stafford adding to the tally, with the game ending 6-0.

With only injury time remaining, the Green Man were 4-3 to the good when Noon tripped Wally on the edge of the box, giving Nobody Inn a free kick. Matt Walton stepped up and found the top corner, equalising and in turn handing FC Genes the title.

That title made it six trophies for the clippers since forming last season, leaving them one cut above the rest. Man of the match was Luke Donaghy

FC Genes: Copley, Vorley, Gibbo, Stafford, Winters, Whyley, Clarke, Watson, Drury, Donaghy, Hanratty.
