Ancaster & Caythorpe 3

In the aftermath of Doris, Totemic and Ancaster were looking to storm into the final of the Freya Birch Supplementary cup.

On a bobbly pitch, Totemic struggled to gain control of the ball in the opening stages, giving Ancaster some early sights of goal. They did have the ball in the back of the Totemic net but was ruled offside.

Ancaster took the lead midway through the first half with a run down the left wing and a smart finish just inside the left post.

Falling behind appeared to stir a lethargic Totemic side who started to put some neat passing together and they equalised through captain Tom Parrish.

The first half ended all square with all to play for after the break.

Playing against the wind, Totemic looked a different team in the second half, although Ancaster nearly took the lead once again from a free kick, but a smart save from the Totemic keeper at the top corner kept the scores level.

Matt Markiewicz broke the deadlock after a period of sustained pressure with a bullet header to put Totemic ahead.

Ancaster were against the ropes and took another big hit when Lee Marshall showed a good turn of pace in the box and buried the ball in the roof of the net for 3-1.

Totemic had their tails up now and Darren Eales managed to squeeze the ball through a crowd of players to make it 4-1.

With 10 minutes to go, Totemic took their foot off the pedal but, despite two goals in quick succession from Ancaster, it wasn’t enough to halt Totemic who saw the game out to march on the final.

Totemic: Chadwick, Dodwell, Miller, Brown, Reed, Markiewicz, Shearer, Adamson, Clark, Parrish, Marshall. Subs: Cotton, Whiting, Eales, Blow, Steptoe.
