U14 Lincs Cup

Barrowby U13 2

Appleby U14 1

In poor weather conditions, Barrowby took to the field resplendent in their new kit, kindly sponsored by Belvoir Grantham.

They knew they were in for a tough game against an older Appleby side but were determined that through grit, teamwork and desire they would take the game to the opposition.

Through some excellent passing play, Barrowby were unfortunate not to take an early lead via Kettle, with Bramley also heading a corner against the post shortly after.

But as half time approached, Appleby started to impose themselves on the game and Barrowby keeper Cole did well to keep the score level.

With minutes to go, Smith beat a well-drilled offside trap to give the home side a deserved lead to take into the break.

From the start of the second half, Appleby put the home side under considerable pressure and deservedly drew level.

However, Barrowby responded immediately when Wade played Kettle in for a one-on-one with the keeper to restore the home side’s lead.

Again, Appleby fought back gamely and the home side needed to dig deep to see out an exciting cup tie.
