Harrowby United 7

Fernwood Foxes 0

Completing their final game of the season, the young Arrows went out with a bang.

The visitors, Newark-based Fernwood Foxes, knew they were the only team left to halt Harrowby’s unbeaten season-long winning streak.

From the off, the visitors thwarted the Arrows attacks and it looked like it was going to be one of those afternoons when nothing would go Harrowby’s way. Kye Hull hesitated with an open goal and pushed the ball wide, and minutes later he was denied the opener by the goalpost.

Top scorer Hull then settled the nerves after 20 long minutes by rounding the keeper and planting the ball home. This was quickly followed by a Korban Read thunderbolt from 20 yards to double the scoreline.

The young Arrows now had their tails up and further strikes from Matt Cox and another from Hull gave Harrowby a healthy 4-0 half time advantage.

Fernwood refused to give up in the second period but the occasional push forward from them was quickly mopped up by the well-drilled Arrows defence.

Once Harrowby settled in and found their rhythm again it was not long before the score progressed with Read doubling his tally through a goalkeeping error. The introduction of Henry Dilley into the midfield heaped misery on the visitors and before long he made it a half dozen to the Arrows with a clinical finish.

Cox then finished off the scoring with his second of the game, the final whistle coming as a relief to Fernwood as Harrowby ended the season on a high.

Men of the match were Korban Read and Joe Down

And so Harrowby now completed the almost unbelievable task of playing a full season without dropping a single point – a great achievement for a newly formed team.
