Great Ponton 2

Woodhall Spa 2

The home side started the game slowly and found themselves defending from the kick-off.

Woodhall Spa had several chances early in the game but were unable to put any shots on target. Ponton started to wake up and battle for possession, ensuring that they showed the visitors what great football they can play.

The midfield used their wingers to create more space to play and the strikers started to pile the pressure on to the Woodhall defence.

Jaydon Devine opened the scoring up by lobbing the keeper to claim a well-deserved goal.

Shots came from both sides but both goal keepers worked hard to keep the ball out of the net.

The second half started more positively for Ponton and the determination paid off when Barry Harrison beat the defenders himself and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

The two goal lead gave the home side the confidence boost they had been looking for and they threatened to increase the lead further with more shots, but struggled to hit the target.

Woodhall took a corner and although it seemed that defender Liam Raitt cleared the ball off the goal line and play continued, a late decision by the referee awarded a goal after the linesman flagged to say the ball had crossed the line.

The disappointment of the decision was felt through the Ponton team and they allowed their heads to drop long enough for Woodhall to take full advantage and run through the defence and score.

Ponton managed to pick themselves up and played a far more attacking formation. The defenders refused to allow Woodhall past and the last 10 minutes looked more like shooting practice for Great Ponton, but Woodhall put every player behind the ball and managed to hold on to the draw.

Men of the match were Jack Croft and Jaydon Devine.
