Harrowby United 2

Wyberton Colts 0

The Young Arrows entertained third placed Wyberton Colts at the Environcom Stadium.

The visitors had only lost one game all season and with Harrowby unbeaten in all of their 12 games this term, a clash of the titans was imminent. The Arrows were hoping that game 13 was not going to bring them bad luck.

The encounter started very lively and both teams had early chances to break the deadlock. The game then turned into a scrappy affair with the visitors very wary of the speedy Arrows front line, and the home team struggling to cope with Wyberton’s strong, hard tackling midfield.

Harrowby persisted and were awarded by the determination of Matt Cox who ran in on the angle and his fierce shot cannoned into the net via a defender’s boot to give Harrowby a 1-0 half-time lead.

Wyberton started the second period the stronger team and nearly equalised, but the crossbar saved the Arrows on this occasion.

As the game progressed, fatigue slowed the game down, but Kye Hull was still full of running and nearly doubled the lead, only to be thwarted by a last ditch tackle.

Man of the match Matt Cox put the game to bed with a fine solo run and finish for the second goal in the last 10 minutes to give the Young Arrows their 13th consecutive league win, and possibly a step closer to the title in their first season.

This Sunday, Harrowby are at home to Retford United, 10.45am kick off.
