Harrowby United continued their upturn in form by making it four wins in their last five outings with an emphatic victory over Northampton Sileby Rangers.

Taking the game immediately by the scruff of the neck, Harrowby put pressure on the visitors with wave after wave of attacks straight from kick off. In the sixth minute, the Arrows front two of Callum Wilkinson and Craig Bridge linked well, the former setting up a shooting chance for Bridge that was too close to Rangers keeper Jamie Hall.

Three minutes later, Harrowby went in front when a nice ball out of defence from Lewis Watson found Wilkinson who slid it through delightfully for Danny Durkin to run on to. The Arrows’ top scorer took the ball on at pace before firing a low right foot shot past Hall and into the corner of the net. On 21 minutes, Durkin was again provided with a shooting opportunity but this time the shot was comfortably saved by Hall.

Harrowby doubled their lead after 34 minutes when a through-ball from the right side found Arrows man of the match Bridge who produced a delicate lob over the advancing Hall, the ball nestling in the empty net.

Keeper Hall made a fine save after 38 minutes when a low drive from Wilkinson looked to be creeping inside the post. But the Arrows made it three on the stroke of half time when a move down the left involving debutant Aaron Martin ended with the ball played into Bridge who fired home a sweetly struck right foot shot from just inside the right edge of the penalty area.

The second half was more of the same and on 50 minutes Harrowby made it four. The goal again came from good work down the left as Watson carried the ball out of defence, playing it for Martin who in turn quickly moved it on to Wilkinson. Wilkinson rolled his marker on the edge of the box before slipping a lovely ball through for the alert Durkin who lifted the ball over Hall and into the net.

Wilkinson went from provider to scorer in the 67th minute with a fine solo effort. Picking the ball up out on the right, he danced inside two defenders before unleashing a rasping shot that flew into the net past a helpless Hall.

Harrowby were initially denied a sixth in the 81st minute when a fine run down the left from substitute Sam Weatherstone ended with his well struck shot rebounding off the left hand upright, falling to Wilkinson just inside the penalty area. The big striker’s goal bound follow-up shot was superbly cleared off the line by Rangers left back Max Payne.

But Harrowby made it a super six two minutes from time when a driving run into the box from Bridge was ended when he was brought down by defender Dalton Bettles as he got to the byline. Wilkinson stepped up to convincingly fire the spot kick into the left hand side of the net, giving Hall no chance and completing a resounding victory for the Arrows has they start to climb up the table.
