Harrowby United’s penultimate game brought another welcome three points from a comfortable three-goal victory over Raunds Town.
The Arrows almost grabbed an early lead after only two minutes. Martin Wormall was fouled on the edge of the penalty area and from the free kick, Scott Webb’s right foot effort rattled the crossbar. The lead was not long coming when good approach play from Harrowby ended with a through ball to Wormall who beat his marker and produced a cool finish past “Shopmates” keeper Kris King.
The lead was doubled after 23 three minutes when great work down the left from Lee Shaw saw him cross into the box. Wormall laid the ball off to Craig Wilson who fired home from just inside the area.
Just past the half hour mark, Raunds’ only real meaningful move of the game brought the best out of Arrows keeper Jack Drury, who dived to his right to fingertip the ball on to the post from a shot by Alex Wilis. Drury then recovered quickly to acrobatically scoop the ball away, preventing a follow-up chance.
Harrowby made it 3-0 two minutes before the interval when a harmless looking ball into the area bounced up on to a defender’s hand and referee Mr Thorald immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Wormall stepped up and calmly slotted the spot kick past King and effectively ended the game as a contest with his 42nd goal of the season.
The second half had an end of season feel to it with chances few and far between. Wormall had a volleyed effort go straight at the keeper and Shaw a header with the same result.
Man-of-the-match Webb missed the Arrows’ best chance of the half when he fired over the bar after being set up down the right by overlapping full back Sam Weatherstone.
The win moved the Arrows back into sixth position in the league with one game left to play.
