Thrapston Town 1
Harrowby United 0
Harrowby created the game’s first chance after four minutes when Scott Webb fed Lee Shaw down the right wing. Shaw played a teasing ball across the Thrapston six-yard box but the home side scrambled the ball away.
Thrapston settled into the game and Harrowby needed a fine save from visiting custodian Jack Drury on the 20-minute mark to keep the scores level. The home side thought they had taken the lead after 39 minutes when a deep cross from the right was knocked past Drury into the net, only for the referee’s assistant to raise his flag for offside.
The final chance of a lacklustre first half fell to Jack Whyley who headed wide from a corner two minutes before the break.
Thrapston scored the game’s only goal two minutes into the second period. Catching Harrowby on the break, they worked an opening in the box. Whyley blocked the first effort but the rebound fell kindly to Luke Cummins who slotted calmly past Drury.
The Arrows tried to get themselves back into the game and created a few openings. Martin Wormall and Shaw both shot straight at the home keeper. James Burrows and Bobby Lee fired just over the crossbar.
Thrapston still looked dangerous on the counter-attack and Drury saved superbly on 82 minutes. Harrowby’s final chance in stoppage time brought a great save from Burrows after Wormall had cut in from the left and curled a right foot shot that looked destined to find the bottom right hand corner of the net, until the Thrapston stopper threw himself to his left and turned the ball past the post with his fingertips.
Man of the match was Jamie Preston.
