Postponement results in Gingerbreads losing top spot

GRANTHAM Town’s visit to Leek Town was called off following a frozen pitch decision after a 10am pitch inspection on Saturday.

Second-placed Carlton Town took good advantage by drubbing Quorn 8-0 away to move into top spot in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South.

The Gingerbreads slipped to second place on goal difference. Tied with Carlton on 60 points, Grantham have two games in hand on the Nottingham side.

Following the referee’s decision to postpone the match, Leek Town were left counting the cost of the lost revenue, which according to the club’s website included having to dispose of 100 pies which could not be re-frozen.
