Grantham Town dismantled Salford City with comparative ease at The Meres on Saturday to register their fourth successive league victory.

TV stars of the FA Cup and Class of 92, The Ammies were unable to keep up with the Gingerbreads’ incessant workrate and battling performance, with two deserved second half goals being Town’s just reward in front of packed stands.

Both sides had to contend with horrendous conditions, with wind howling down the pitch and intermittent driving rain.

Grantham had by far the better of the first half and had chances aplenty to go in front.

With the wind at their backs after the break, Town continued to pressure and they were rewarded in the 69th minute when Rhys Lewis headed in at the far post from a Danny Meadows corner kick.

The Gingerbreads effectively sealed the win with eight minutes remaining.

An initial shot from a corner kick was repelled by Salford but only as far as Lewis who knocked the ball in from the scramble in front of goal.

Salford co-owner Gary Neville was spotted in the stands, all smiles before kick-off, but he only hung around for half an hour, perhaps heading off to Leicester City to give his old side Manchester United some support instead in the evening kick-off?
