Grantham’s Meres leisure centre to host schools Winter Games

Grantham’s Meres leisure centre will be the host venue for Lincolnshire’s Winter Sainsbury’s School Games next year.

Seven-hundred-and-fifty schoolchildren from an estimated 50 primary and secondary schools will take part in the sports event on Wednesday, March 6.

Participants will take part in a number of sports including: table tennis, badminton, basketball, futsal, hockey, netball, rugby, new age kurling and goalball.

Lincolnshire Sports Partnership (LSP) school games project officer Gareth Short said: “It’s great to have Grantham Meres leisure centre on board as a partner for the second time. The facilities at the leisure centre are fantastic.”

Lincolnshire’s Winter and Summer School Games are organised by the Local Organising Committee (LOC), involving partners from LSP, School Sports Partnerships, National Governing Bodies of Sport, local schools and the Youth Sport Trust (YST).

Sports facilities across the county were invited to tender for the chance to host either the winter or summer games. Yarborough Leisure Centre and Lincoln Castle Academy will co-host the Summer Games in July 2013.
