A Barrowby judo exponent has been selected to represent the British Judo Council national team in Belgium next month.Heather Goodman's string of good performances this year attracted the attention of BJC selectors, in particular winning silver at the BJC Nationals and bronze in the BJC Welsh Nationals during the summer.

The 15-year-old KGGS pupil, who is a member of the Vale Judo Club in Oakham, has only been practising judo for three years but has this year collected a number of medals.

She won two gold medals in the Dunkirk Open, silver at the Oslo Spring Championships, as well as a handful of bronze medals in various other competitions.

Heather finished fifth in the British Judo Association Junior Nationals in Sheffield earlier this month and took gold in the BJC Leicestershire Open at the weekend.

She may also have done enough to qualify to represent the BJA at international level.

Heather will join her BJC team-mates to take on Europe's best at the Tornooi van Merksem International, Belgium, which begins on Saturday, November 17.

Heather's father Lee said: "She's getting very excited now. Oslo was really the turning point for her this year. It will be a completely different level in Belgium."
